Florence Nightlife Guide

by Drew on March 25, 2014 11 comments

I’ve been to all the main cities in Italy, and I thought that Florence had the best nightlife of them all.  By a long shot.

There are thousands upon thousands of University students in Florence, which is the reason why this city comes alive at night.  What I liked most about the scene was that there was a nice mix of local Italians and international students, which made meeting people very easy.  I just couldn’t stop having fun.

If you like going to clubs, then you are in for a real treat! Florence is home to some really fun dance clubs.  The peak hours are from 2-4AM, so there is no need to show up early. Just keep drinking with your friends until you are nice and drunk, because the clubs are not cheap whatsoever.  Also, keep in mind that you need to dress nicely or you won’t be allowed to enter some of the clubs.

DSC01763The bar scene is just like any University Town- fun, crowded and rowdy.  I recommend going bar hopping around town before you head to the clubs.  It’s a great way to meet people as well.

Don’t forget to learn the Top 10 Italian Words so you can (attempt to) hit on those attractive Italians ;)

Here is my list of the best places to party in Florence!

Disclaimer: The following list of clubs and bars was put together mostly from my own personal experiences, but also with the addition of my friends recommendations.  Things may have changed over the years, so I am trying my best to keep this list updated.  If I missed something, please comment so I can add it to the list!  Enjoy :D

*Top Clubs*

#1. Space Electronic

Overview:
Club Space is your place for all-night dancing to electronic music until sunrise.  The club has a lounge and bar area downstairs, where you can grab a drink and schmooze with your friends before the action goes down. Upstairs is the enormous dance floor with endless speakers and a DJ that gets the party going.

Space Electronic gives off a ‘warehouse party vibe’ that is packed with young music lovers.  The crowd is a mix of locals and study abroad students, which makes it ideal for meeting people.  Dress to impress or else you won’t be let in the door.  Space was by far my favorite club in Florence!

Price:
Cover is anywhere from $10-20USD (students get in cheaper)- which includes a drink.  Drinks are expensive.

Address:
Via Palazzuolo, 37r
50123 Florence

Neighborhood: Santa Maria Novella

Overview:
Club TwentyOne might not be the most stylish club in town, but the outgoing crowd and amazing music makes it a perfect late-night party stop.   The walls are white and matching red and blue tiles light up floor/seating area.  The DJ spins a good selection of electronic music from drum and bass to top 20 hits.  The atmosphere can get rowdy with young students mixed in with some locals.  TwentyOne is a great place to go when other clubs/bars are beginning to cool down.  It’s all positive vibes at Club TwentyOne!

Price:
Free entry. Beers and cocktails are €3-7 each.

Address:
Via dei Cimatori, 13
50122 Florence

Neighborhood: Santa Croce

#3. Club Twice

Overview:
Twice is a sexy, animated nightclub located down the street from the Piazza Santa Croce.  Some features include an elegant lounge, a glossy hardwood floor and several sparkling bars.  This club has a chill vibe in the early evening, and the dance floor slowly becomes packed as the night progresses.  There is a comfortable lounge area and smoking room where people can relax and smoke, but the main attraction is the lively dance floor.

It may be hard to find space on the dance floor because it gets so crowded with young international students. Also, make sure to try their wine because they have a great selection.  Monday night is college night and Thursday nights are themed parties. You may just be here all night without thinking ‘twice!

Price:
No cover charge! Beers are €5, cocktails €6-10.

Address:
Via Giuseppe Verdi, 57/r
50122 Florence

Neighborhood: Santa Croce

Ahh, partying in Florence. I remember those days. I went with my friends like five years ago. I remember going to Oibo and thinking everyone was “old” (I was freshly 21 and anyone 22 and over was old.. no idea why lol) and I remember going to Central Park. Not sure it still exists.

    Drew - October 9, 2014 reply
